Meet Tom Smead
Owner/ Operator Sound Strike Studios


Tom has been involved in the music business for 30 years….
A musician since the age of 14.… he has always played in bands while pursuing his career. Graduated with a BA. In music and continued his education at The College for Recording Arts in San Francisco.

While attending College, Tom was offered positions by 2 of his instructors, and he has been working full time in music ever since. While doing albums in San Francisco , he worked on sessions at Studio D, The Record Plant among others.

He started doing live sound at the request of some of his studio clients and spent the next 25 years working on the road and in live venues with groups that ran the gamut from country to rock to blues to alternative... Including the likes of Van Halen, Reba Macintyre, Judas Priest, Metallica, Stray Cats and many others.

Now living in Ocean City, NJ he has finally completed his life long dream of building his own studio: SOUND STRIKE STUDIOS in Marmora.

Once you have chosen a studio you like, make a point to meet the engineer . This is the guy who will determine your recorded sound so make sure you agree on what you want.    Most engineers are highly professional and experienced in many different styles of music so just let them know what you want.    It is also a wise idea to bring in some samples of the style of production you are looking for. This is usually just a couple of cd's of bands whose sound you like .    Next month I will discuss prepping for the studio ....
